Essential amino acids

Essential amino acids are those that the body cannot synthesize by itself and which must therefore be consumed directly through diet. There are 9 essential amino acids, each with different characteristics and different functions: Phenylalanine, Histidine, Lysine, Tryptophan, Methionine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Threonine and Valine. Sports nutrition products included in this category are formulated with some of these amino acids in order to cover certain needs.

Histidine: Essential for the growth and repair of tissues, production of red and white blood cells, protection against radiation damage, reduction in blood pressure and to increase sexual arousal.

Lysine: Guarantees suitable absorption of calcium and maintains a suitable balance of nitrogen. It also intervenes in the formation of collagen which makes up the cartilage and connecting tissues.

Tryptophan: Helps to alleviate insomnia inducing normal sleep, reduces anxiety and depression, stabilizes moods, contributes to the treatment of migraine and helps the immunological system to function correctly.

Methionine: Avoids disorders of the hair, skin and nails, helps to decompose fat and detox harmful agents such as lead and heavy metals and helps to reduce weakness in muscles.

Isoleucine: Contributes to the formation of haemoglobin, stabilizes sugar in the bloodstream and levels of energy. Also helps repair muscle tissue, skin and bones.

Leucine: Promotes the healing of muscle tissue, skin and bones. It also reduces levels of sugar in the bloodstream and helps to increase the production of the growth hormone.

Valine: Necessary for the muscle metabolism and coordination, tissue repair, and serves to keep the level of nitrogen in the body balanced.
